An upper trough was approaching the California coast and a flat ridge was building over West Texas and southeast New Mexico. A dryline was across the area and the atmosphere was extremely unstable. Wind shear was also good across the area. These conditions resulted in thunderstorms producing large hail, strong winds, and a tornado across areas of West Texas.
