Event narrative

Heavy rain from thunderstorms caused one foot of water to flood the Watauga River Bridge between Seven Devils and Grandfather Mountain. Watauga County Sheriff's department reported that a large retaining wall at a motel in Boone, NC had fallen because of heavy rains. Water flowing across Route 105 closed two lanes near Boone, North Carolina. A mudslide was reported along Clarks Creek Road in Foscoe.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure moved across the southern Appalachians producing 2 to 4 inches of rain which resulted in flash flooding.
