A peak gust of 62 mph was recorded 2 miles east of Montana Vista.

An upper low was moving across Colorado with an associated cold front extending south across the Borderland. A 150 knot upper level jet was also approaching southern New Mexico which aided in bringing down wind gusts over 90 mph.
