Event narrative
A severe thunderstorm produced large hail that was estimated to be the size of quarters southwest of Cimarron.
Wider weather episode
Strong instability and adequate moisture as a result of a strong low pressure system moving overhead led to thunderstorms which developed across western Colorado. Some storms became severe and produced large hail in both Montrose and La Plata counties.
