Event narrative

Palmer ASOS reported 0.44 of precipitation between 5:32 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. This caused localized flooding of parking lots in the Palmer area. Quarter inch hail was also reported at this time.

Wider weather episode

A weak thermal trough over the mainland of Alaska allowed thunderstorms to develop in the Matanuska Valley. Steering flow was very light, making the storms almost stationary. Combined with poor drainage, this produced localized flooding in Palmer, Alaska.
