Event narrative

The Texas Coastal Ocean Observing Network (TCOON) site at Brazos Santiago reported a peak gust of 39 knots at 930 AM CST, part of a 6 minute stretch of Gale force gusts associated with an eastward moving squall line that had exited the coast about an hour earlier. Note that Brazos Santiago is about 200 yards inshore, and used as a proxy for the Gulf waters just beyond the surf zone.

Wider weather episode

A squall line that originated along and east of the Sierra Madre during the pre-dawn hours of April 7 rolled across the Rio Grande Valley and Deep South Texas during the early morning, then continued across the Lower Texas Gulf waters through mid to late morning, producing dozens of minutes of gale force gusts from Laguna Madre through the waters beyond 20 nautical miles offshore.
