NOAA Buoy 42020 recorded a peak gust of 41 knots around sunrise, as a line of thunderstorms developed along a seasonally strong cold front racing through the Lower Texas Gulf waters.

Wider weather episode

A late season front surged through the Lower Texas Gulf waters on April 18 during the early morning hours. A line of thunderstorms developed off the coast, but affected the waters beyond 20 nautical miles from shore and produced greater than 40 knots while passing by locations east and northeast of Port Mansfield.
