At 3:03 PM EST, the mesonet site at Sabin Point in Riverside/East Providence reported a wind gust of 40 mph.
Wider weather episode
A pool of cold air above the surface moved over Southern New England during June 30.
This created sufficient instability to cause thunderstorms with strong wind. The cold air moved off to the southeast that night.
