At 3:49 PM EST, the mesonet site at Block Island Jetty reported a wind gust to 39 mph.
Wider weather episode
A pool of cold air above the surface moved over Southern New England during June 30.
This created sufficient instability to cause thunderstorms with strong wind. The cold air moved off to the southeast that night.
