What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A tornado touched down 2.1 miles southwest of South Pekin at 10:19 PM CDT. The tornado tracked east-southeast...destroying a shed, blowing over several 18 to 24-inch diameter trees, and knocking over power poles north of Christmas Tree Road near Highway 29 before dissipating about 2.4 miles southeast of South Pekin at 10:22 PM CDT.

The wider storm

A line of thunderstorms developed across eastern Iowa during the early evening of June 15th, then tracked southeastward along an advancing warm front into central Illinois during the late evening of the 15th into the early morning hours of the 16th.
