Event narrative

Numerous reports were received at the Juneau forecast office of waterspouts forming near Lincoln Island and moving south to Point Coverden during Friday afternoon 2/8.

Wider weather episode

Strong high pressure built over the Yukon from 2/6 to 2/8. The high on Friday afternoon, 2/8 was 1046 millibars which moved the arctic front to Dixon Entrance. A moderate low was in the southwestern Gulf at the same time. Strong arctic outflow wind developed. Waterspouts formed all afternoon near Lincoln Island and moved south to Point Coverden under stratocumulus cloud streets in the cold air.
