A weak upper level ridge was over the region with upper level disturbances that moved over the area providing lift. Very moist and unstable conditions were present. A cold front had moved through most of the area the previous day and had retreated northward during the day. These ingredients contributed to thunderstorms with large hail across West Texas and southeast New Mexico.
