Moderate levels of shear allowed an upstream mesoscale convective system to shift into parts of Southeast South Carolina during early morning hours. A second round of strong to severe thunderstorms developed later in the afternoon as large mid-level lapse rates developed across the region while previous boundaries became focal points of differential heating and convergence.
