Event narrative

NOAA Buoy 42020, 45 nm northeast of Port Mansfield, reported a brief gust to 35 knots as the second in a series of strong thunderstorms passed across the Lower Texas Gulf waters beyond 20 nautical miles offshore.

Wider weather episode

Broad southwest atmospheric flow with embedded upper level disturbances combined with a stationary front over the Texas Gulf waters to produce two days of strong thunderstorm clusters, mostly east of the 20 nautical mile line (roughly east of 97 degrees west longitude). A few gale force gusts occurred at the NOAA Buoy (42020) approximately 45 miles northeast of Port Mansfield on the 10th.
