Event narrative

A severe thunderstorm producing winds estimated near 60 mph knocked down trees near Keating. One of the trees fell onto two kayakers who has pulled ashore when the storm approached. The kayakers were transported to a nearby hospital, and one passed away.

Wider weather episode

Scattered thunderstorms developed well ahead of an approaching cold front, in a warm and very muggy airmass (high CAPE / low shear) over central Pennsylvania. Several of the storms produced sporadic wind damage and heavy rain.
