Wider weather episode
June 21 started a period of active weather for southern Indiana and central Kentucky.
On June 21, A large Mesoscale Convective System (MCS) formed over Missouri early in the day. By afternoon, a line of severe storms had made its way into southern Indiana, doing isolated damage. This line continued south and southeast into Kentucky.
On June 23, in much of the same way, large MCSs that originated in Kansas and Missouri continued traveling south and east while expanding. These systems took advantage of afternoon heating that fueled stronger lines and expanded stretching over multiple states. The result was severe damage in a few southern Indiana counties.
