Wider weather episode

A multi-day, significant flooding event occurred in the Steinhatchee area of southeast Taylor county as well as Dixie county. A 5 day rainfall total of 31.79 inches was measured by a personal weather station near Steinhatchee. Several homes received water damage in the area. Specifically, there were 48 homes with minor damage and 15 homes with major damage in Steinhatchee. A curfew was in place for Steinhatchee during the overnight hours. This rainfall was caused in part by a slow moving, weak area of low pressure in the northeast Gulf combined with a tropical airmass. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms trained over the same area, resulting in both flash flooding and areal flooding. As the low drifted slowly westward, some flash flooding also occurred in and near the Panama City area as well as a small area of Gadsden county.
