Event narrative

The Texas Coastal Ocean Observation Network site at Baffin Bay, just a couple miles north of the northern Laguna Madre, recorded wind gusts just shy of 50 knots as a slowly decaying mini-supercell thunderstorm passed over the site. Values used here are proxy to the nearby location in the entrance of Baffin Bay. Gusts in excess of 40 knots were recorded for 12 minutes.

Wider weather episode

A small but potent mini-supercell thunderstorm formed over Kleberg County during the early evening of June 6th, the moved southeast into Baffin Bay and the northern Laguna Madre, producing storm-force gusts. The storm would weaken rapidly as it moved into the nearshore waters just east of Kenedy County.
