What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

An EF1 tornado touched down 4 miles southwest of Hooks, Texas at the Red River Army Depot. Trees were downed and snapped. An outbuilding was destroyed, and a security guard shelter was pushed over. The intermittent tornado then moved northeast and crossed Interstate 30 where it knocked trees down on a house and damaged and destroyed several campers at a camper sale store on the interstate. Some of the main building was also damaged.

The wider storm

A vigorous upper level storm system over northwest Texas triggered a round of strong to severe thunderstorms over northeast Texas, southwest Arkansas, and northwest Louisiana ahead of a cold front that moved east through the area. Isolated tornadoes occurred ahead of a cold front during the morning hours, and there were a few reports of wind damage and flash flooding as the cold front moved east during the daytime.

Began near New Boston (33.4405, -94.4064).
