Event narrative
Lakeshore flooding resulted in tons of debris washing up on beaches near Algoma. Heavy damage and erosion occurred in several spots in Algoma, including the waves carved out a hollow more than six feet high that comes within about 3 feet of the Algoma Chamber of Commerce building. A historical marker, the Christmas Tree Ship Point suffered significant damage due to the high waves.
Wider weather episode
The combination of southeast Gales and high lake levels caused lakeshore flooding across eastward facing beaches on the Bay of Green Bay and Lake Michigan during the afternoon hours.
