Event narrative

Several inches of snowfall coupled with melting/refreezing snow lead to treacherous travel conditions near Blewett Pass. This resulted in at least 9 automobile collisions and one fatality in the evening and overnight hours of the 29th.

Wider weather episode

A powerful Arctic front swept through the Inland Northwest late in the month, bringing an stretch of record cold and even some wintry precipitation. At least one fatality occurred as a result of heavy snow in one of the mountain passes of central Washington north of Ellensburg. Several vehicle accidents occurred with one confirmed fatality.
