Late summer warm lake waters allowed for overnight convection to wander up the lake shore from northwestern Pennsylvania into the New York near shore waters of Lake Erie. The convection over the lake was notably more developed than that over the land, and one cell that tracked up the Chautauqua County shore was particularly impressive. This cell passed Dunkirk shortly after it peaked in intensity and subsequently weakened thereafter once pushing into Erie County waters.
