A short wave trough and associated colder air aloft moved along Lake Ontario during the afternoon in post-frontal cooler air. The stronger mid-level lapse rates associated with this feature combined with warmer lake waters allowed for thunderstorms to develop during the afternoon that peaked in intensity as they neared the east end of Lake Ontario.
