Event narrative

Heavy rainfall caused erosion and mudslides along the Chiniak Highway. Some parts of the road were washed out.

Wider weather episode

A low pressure system in the Bering Sea pushed a warm front across southern Alaska. The storm brought moisture from much further south, contributing to heavy rainfall in Kodiak. In Southcentral, high winds were experiences as the front crossed the area.
