2019-10-09 to 2019-10-10 · Southern Foot Hills, South Dakota
Wider weather episode
An early season winter storm brought snow and gusty winds to much of western and south central South Dakota. The heaviest snow fell across the northern Black Hills and portions of northwestern South Dakota, where eight to 12 inches were reported with some locally higher amounts. Wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph on the back side of the storm caused blowing and drifting snow, with greatly reduced visibility on the plains. Icy roads and gusty winds tipped over several high profile vehicles on Interstate 90 east of Rapid City.
