A strong cold front moved through the area with an upper level shortwave following it. Snow developed from north to south across the area, with several inches falling across much of western South Dakota. Across portions of the Black Hills, especially the central Black Hills, a heavier band of snow produced over six inches of accumulation. Precipitation started off as a light freezing rain or freezing drizzle in some areas.
