Event narrative

Alaska DOT reported rain and black ice from the Edgerton Highway turn off to Kenny Lake. They also reported 4 inches of new snow along the Richardson Highway between milepost 82 and Paxson.

Wider weather episode

A complex weather system based in the Aleutian Islands brought multiple fronts across the area. This caused ice and blizzard conditions west of the Alaska Range, while entrenched cold air on the east side of the Alaska Range led to heavy snow.
