Event narrative

Observer located five miles northeast of Henry reported blizzard conditions with six to eight inches of new snowfall along with ice accumulation of half an inch.

Wider weather episode

A powerful low pressure system tracked into the central Great Plains producing a tight pressure gradient and trowal winter precipitation that produced blizzard or near-blizzard conditions and high winds throughout the Panhandle. Peak wind gusts were measured into the upper 60 mph range with several drifts exceeding two feet across Sioux, Dawes, and Box Butte Counties.
