Event narrative
The Greenbrier County 911 center reported numerous trees blown down by high winds at various locations in the eastern half of the county. Mesonet stations reported wind gusts frequently in the 55 to 60 MPH range.
Wider weather episode
A strong cold front passed across the central Appalachians and lower mid-Atlantic region on the morning and afternoon of the November 27th, supported aloft by a strong upper level disturbance. The disturbance brought 55 to 65 MPH winds just off the surface, some of which funneled down to the surface. Wind speeds decreased during the early morning hours of November 28th as the upper disturbance exited the region.
