Event narrative

Snow fell with 8 to 9 inches at the Skagway Customs station on the Klondike Highways. Windy conditions to impact highways with drifting and blowing snow and DOT had trouble keeping the road clear and didn't go all the way to border, essentially closing pass due to weather.

Wider weather episode

Surface trough moves east with arctic air pulled in. SE flow strengthens trough with local overrunning. Strong moisture transport and lift with approaching warm front leads the way with overrunning snow.
