Event narrative

Grapevine Road was closed near the Chaplin River due to flooding.

Wider weather episode

December 16, 2019, a flood watch was in place for areas of central Kentucky as widespread rainfall was expected to continue across the region. The rain was the result of a moist airmass, with precipitable water values of 1 to 1.25 inches, overrunning a slow moving front that stretched from the Red River Valley to the mid Atlantic. During the afternoon and evening, a surge in low level moisture and transport caused prolonged periods of heavy rainfall. Standing water, closed roads, and a water rescue were reported in the affected area.
