Event narrative

Strong winds downed trees and power lines causing damage to homes and cars and at least three outages affecting 3000 Pacific Power customers in Bend. An electrical transformer box exploded outside Bend Senior High School late Sunday afternoon as a result of the wind storm causing school to be cancelled on Monday.

Wider weather episode

Strong winds impacted a large area of central and northeast Oregon with the passage of a cold front during the day on Sunday, February 23rd. Widespread winds of 20-40 mph with gusts of 50-55 mph were reported. Winds reached locally damaging levels in portions of the Blue Mountain Foothills, Northern Blue Mountains and in the city of Bend.
