A compact storm system brought snow to western South Dakota. The heaviest snow fell across the northern Black Hills area, where 12 to 24 inches were reported in many locations, with some amounts around 30 inches in the Lead area. The Rapid City area and central Black Hills received eight to 12 inches. The rest of western South Dakota mostly saw two to six inches of accumulation, except for parts of far southwest and south central South Dakota, where accumulations were very light. Winds gusting to 35 mph on the northwestern and west central South Dakota plains produced some blowing and drifting snow and caused hazardous travel.
