Event narrative
After heavy rain and flash flooding on February 4th and 5th, flood waters slowly subsided by February 9th due to saturated and frozen ground and already high river levels. On February 7th, a car was removed from the bottom of a flooded stone quarry. There were three occupants in the car, all three had died.
Wider weather episode
Heavy rain fell onto saturated and frozen ground across northwest Indiana which produced flash flooding on February 4th and 5th. Flooding then continued for several days.
