What EF0 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF0 is light damage: shingles and siding peeled, gutters torn, branches broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 65–85 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

NWS storm survey found the path of a short track, weak tornado south of Piedmont. The tornado touched down just west of Childs Rd and tracked north/northeast along Osteen Hill Rd before lifting along River Hill Ct. Multiple trees were uprooted and small trees snapped along the length of the path. Structural damage was limited to a metal carport that was torn from a house on Smith Dr.

The wider storm

Multiple lines of thunderstorms developed across the western Carolinas in advance of a cold front during the late afternoon and evening. Some of these lines produced swaths of wind damage along with brief, weak tornadoes across Upstate South Carolina.

Began near Piedmont (34.6800, -82.4720).
