Precipitation associated with developing low pressure along the Gulf Coast overspread far southwest North Carolina during the morning. Temperatures were cold enough in most areas for the precipitation to fall as snow. The snow, which was heavy at times quickly accumulated. Heavy snowfall totals were realized in many areas by around noon, and by the time the snow tapered off during early/mid afternoon, total accumulations generally ranged from 3 to 6 inches.
