Precipitation developed across the northwest Piedmont during the afternoon and early evening in association with a developing coastal low pressure system. Precip began as rain in most areas, but transitioned to snow fairly quickly. A warm ground and rain mixing in undercut the accumulation potential significantly, but total snowfall of around an inch was reported by early evening.
