Event narrative
Light dry snow during the day became heavy and wet through the night causing accumulations to compact and become difficult to manage. An employee reported nearly 11 inches of new snow by 3 am, with a total of 12.8 for the 24 hour event. Several other locations around town reported event totals snowfalls of 5 to 9 inches, with the largest accumulations on Douglas Island. The Juneau School District cancelled school on the 4th, due to the snow that continued overnight.
