Event narrative
A line of showers and embedded thunderstorms associated with a passing cold front produced a wind gust of 39 mph (34 kt) at the NOAA/NOS site at Naples Pier.
Wider weather episode
Veering surface flow, from the south then southwest, ahead of an approaching cold front allowed for plenty of moisture to advect in across the region. Enough instability allowed showers/storms to get gusty at times. As the frontal boundary approached the west coast during the early afternoon hours to early evening hours, showers and storms developed along the front. As these showers/storms pushed on to the west coast, gusty winds occurred.
