Event narrative

Winds generally were gusting to 40 to 46 mph. At 145 PM EST, the ASOS at Westfield-Barnes Airport (KBAF) recorded a gust to 46 mph. Other gusts included 44 mph at Westover AFB and 36 mph from a CWOP site in Springfield. In Southwick at 1234 PM EST, a tree was down on Route 202 near the Westfield town line.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure over Maine strengthened into a powerful cyclone over the Canadian maritime provinces. Its cold front swept across New England, with strong west-northwest winds causing scattered damage in mainly northern and eastern Massachusetts.
