Event narrative

At the Blue Hill Observatory an ASOS reported a wind gust of 70 mph at 149 PM EST (249 PM EDT), and a gust of 68 mph at both 1030 AM EST and 1135 AM EST. In Milton a mesonet station reported wind gusts of 76 mph at 1156 AM EST and of 80 mph at 1206 PM EST. In Quincy a trained spotter reported a tree down on Furnace Brook Parkway at 1152 AM EST.

Wider weather episode

A powerful low pressure system tracked across the Great Lakes and brought strong and damaging winds to all of Massachusetts Monday late morning through the evening. A very strong and highly anomalous low level jet brought southerly wind gusts of 60-70 mph ahead of a cold front that moved through Monday evening.
