A 72 mph wind gust was measured at the Cove Mountain wind tower.

A stacked low pressure system with a late afternoon and evening cold frontal passage produced some severe thunderstorms across Eastern Tennessee. The very strong pressure gradient in association with this system generated powerful wind gusts and a mountain wave event also occurred in the lee of the higher terrain along the Tennessee and North Carolina border.
