A strong winter storm moved across the region, bringing significant snowfall and gusty winds to much of western South Dakota. Rain changed to snow during the late afternoon and evening across the area. Snow was moderate to heavy at times overnight from the Black Hills to the west central and northwest South Dakota plains. Accumulations of six to 12 inches occurred from the Black Hills, northeastward to north central South Dakota. Elsewhere across western South Dakota, two to six inches were reported. Gusty southeasterly winds produced some blowing and drifting snow, especially across southwestern South Dakota.
