The combination of strong afternoon heating with a thin layer of mid level moisture over northern New Mexico allowed isolated showers and thunderstorms to develop over the area on May 11, 2020. One of the stronger dry thunderstorms near Abiquiu produced a brief wind gust up to 59 mph. Tumbleweeds and blowing dust were reported with these stronger winds.
