A strong spring storm system brought snow and gusty winds over the Easter holiday weekend. Rain changed to snow during the day from west to east. Accumulating snow developed during the afternoon across far western areas and then pushed eastward through the early evening. Snow continued overnight before tapering off Sunday morning. The heaviest snowfall was over the northern Black Hills, where a foot or more was reported in some areas. Amounts of five to ten inches were reported from the rest of the Black Hills to south central South Dakota. Amounts tapered off north and northeast of the Black Hills area, where two to five inches of snow was reported across much of northwestern South Dakota.
