Wider weather episode

Low pressure strengthened rapidly as it tracked from the mid-Mississippi River Valley across the central Great Lakes down to 972 hPa. In addition to a favorable track for high winds, 925 hPa winds increased to around 70 knots and mixed behind the front. This lead to high wind gusts and a seiche developing on Lake Erie that peaked at 9.11 feet above low water datum. The maximum wind gusts reported across the area were 65 mph at the Fredonia mesonet station and 61 mph at the Brant mesonet station.
