Wider weather episode
Two waves of severe weather occurred on April 23rd, one during the early morning hours and another in the afternoon. The first event was characterized by a stable low level air mass, with strong shear and moderate instability aloft. A wake low or gravity wave developed within or near the back edge of a rain shield, and produced wind damage. Clearing across west Alabama allowed for destabilization of the air mass and a line of severe storms developed across southwest Alabama.
