As a cold front moved across the lower Texas waters, strong thunderstorms formed along its boundary. One of these storms moved over the BZST2 buoy and it recorded a gust of 35 knots (18.0 m/s).
Wider weather episode
On May 8th, a late season cold front pushed through Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. Along this frontal boundary, thunderstorms formed and created strong wind gusts that were reported at a couple of buoys located along and in the lower Texas coastal waters. The progression of this front was slow and thunderstorms affected the waters from May 8th in the afternoon through the morning hours of May 9th.
