Event narrative
Strong thunderstorms continued to move over the lower Texas waters as a cold front stalled/slowed over Deep South Texas and over the associated coastal waters. Some of these storms moved over the RSJT2 buoy on the morning of May 9th and the buoy recorded gusts of 36 knots for almost an hour.
Wider weather episode
On May 8th, a late season cold front pushed through Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. Along this frontal boundary, thunderstorms formed and created strong wind gusts that were reported at a couple of buoys located along and in the lower Texas coastal waters. The progression of this front was slow and thunderstorms affected the waters from May 8th in the afternoon through the morning hours of May 9th.
