Event narrative
A line of thunderstorms brought severe thunderstorm winds to much of Johnson County. Some of the more notable wind gusts included 76 mph along Interstate 25 in southern Johnson County and 75 mph in northern Johnson County along Interstate 90.
Wider weather episode
A combination of unusually high dew points, ample shear, an approaching trough and strong wind levels winds mixing to the surface brought a rare derecho to portions of southern and central Wyoming. There were widespread reports of wind gusts over 58 mph in portions of Fremont, Natrona, Johnson, Park and Natrona Counties. Some wind gusts over 70 mph were reported as well. For the most part, little damage was reported. However, on the backside of Casper Mountain, around 30 trees were downed by the strong winds.
